Summary of interview with Patricia Kelly for German TV ZDF (Volle Kanne)<summary is not a literal translation of the interview>
TV: It's true that you had to learn to sing and play guitar in 2 weeks?
PK: That's right, otherwise the father would not agree that I performed
with the rest of the siblings. I was 5 years old. Of course, now I think it was
too early. But-then I insisted that I wanted.
PK. I do not watch television. I have a TV at home, but it's always off.
TV: Do your children know that you are from "the famous Kelly".
PK. Yes, their colleagues from school the boys say that they viewed me on
YT, for fcb, ect But I guess that's normal.
TV: We're talking today about yur new book "Der Klang meines
Lenbens". Big success, health problems, breakthroughs.
PK: There were many ups and downs in my life, but still it was a very
beautiful life-and it is! TV: Especially when you are beautiful, and when you
drink so healthy stuff. Special green-smoothie. What is the recipe for it?
PK: BIO spinach, banana and water-mixes
TV: The fans are the cement of music. I had the opportunity to see your
husband. He is from Russia, right?
PK: Yes, he is Russian
TV: Where did you meet?
PK: The castle in Gymnich, he
basically didnt know who I was and what I was doing. He came at the moment when
I decided to go to the convent.
TV: Are your children also can play?
PK: Yes, they play, but more as a
hobby. Patricia talks about how she did not have to go to school, and about
that her father with 12 children traveled the world.
PK: I had a really great childhood. I am very grateful to my parents for
what they gave me and what I've learned. It was then completely different
times.
TV: How old you were when your mother died?
PK: 12 years. Mom was sick all year, but her death was for all of us a
total disaster and shock. We were all very young then, when a child loses a
mother so early, it really is a very traumatic experience. Despite the illness,
she died full of hope and faith. Shortly before her death she told us,
"Keep on singing ...", because she knew that if we will sing
together-it's just going to keep us together.
TV: I'm curious, you have written a few big hits. Who was the author?
PK: Each of us wrote some songs.
But, I also wrote a few.
TV: I'm very curious way of affording to your success. When you have become
popular in France, your dad packed your suitcase and you were going to the
U.S.. Why?
PK: I really do not know what my father was thinking then, how he built a
"brand". He wanted always to be free, and this freedom was most
important to him-it's so typical for Irishman. In our house was always full of
people. I'm not talking about the fans. We lived in a particular group of
bodyguards. 10 security guards permanently in the castle for 24 hours a day. It
was very necessary at the time, really. And during the same route, I do not
know 50-60 bodyguards. Which of course was exorbitantly expensive. - You could
not normally go out for coffee.
PK: No,
absolutely. It was very crazy and dangerous period-completely not my world. You do not
know what I am happy that now I can drink a smoothie here without bodyguards.
TV: You started from playing on the street. No matter: summer, winter, you
had to play.
PK: Yes, minus 10, minus 15 we had to play. As long as people stood we also
had to play. TV: Faith in your life plays a really important role. Especially
when you got sick. What did you feel?
PK: It certainly was a big shock for me, the paradox is that I was the same
age as my mother. I was on the normal control studies and during them it has
been detected. The diagnosis was breast cancer of the fourth step in the right
breast. So I had to undergo surgery to remove my right breast and now I have a
silicone prosthesis. Thank God, now all is already well.
TV: When man becomes aware of that fact has thousands of thoughts.
PK: Yes, I also have thousands of thoughts. First of all I thought about
death, for the first time. But I knew that I would fight and I was full of
hope. My faith also helped me with this.
TV: You prayed every day ...
PK: Yes, of course. I went to Mass. I am a Catholic, and it helped me
fight. But also my husband, my siblings, my good friends. The fact that I was
surrounded by love when it was extremely important. Faith was a very strong
element in our family home. My parents were believers, but did not go to church
very often. Nowadays, when something bad happens, people are returning to the
faith. When I wanted to go to the convent, I was fascinated by this life, this
dedication. Sister Raphael is an example of how much you have to sacrifice for
others. Sister
Raphael is really a great example for others.
